First Regional Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. has presented the Runaway Bay All Age School with a classroom, furnished with desks and chairs for 30 students and their teacher.

The Credit Union’s donation was in response to a request by Runaway Bay All Age for additional classroom space in order to dispense with the school’s shift system which had been in place for more than 10 years.

First Regional underwrote the cost of completing the classroom, including roofing, painting and providing the classroom desks and chairs. The finished classroom and furniture were formally presented to the school at a brief ceremony on October 13.

In welcoming the additional classroom, school Principal Mr. Lambert Pearson noted that since the school eliminated the shift system there has been a 14% increase in the mastery in Grade 4 literacy and an 18% increase in numeracy.
